Be Fearless Kids Edition

In July 2016, our church, Mavuno, embarked on a transformative series centered around the theme "Be Fearless," meticulously broken down into four pillars: Grow, Glow, Go, and Give. The essence of being fearless, as aptly described by Urban Dictionary, captures the spirit of strength, a heart of gold, inner and outer beauty, and the resilience to emerge even more graceful and independent after facing life's storms.

The first focus, GROW, delves into our personal faith journey and our contribution to the growth of those around us. It's a call to become active participants in the development of ourselves and others into everything God envisions.

Moving to the second pillar, GLOW, the emphasis lies in being the light God has destined us to be and making a positive impact on society and the world at large. It's a clarion call to radiate God's light in our individual spheres of influence.

The third dimension, GO, resonates with a divine calling to be fearless influencers. There's a sense that God wants to deploy believers into various realms, breaking barriers and fearlessly influencing the spaces we occupy.

The final pillar, GIVE, underscores the necessity of sacrificial giving—of our lives, our selves, and our resources—to witness the manifestation of these transformative goals. The BE FEARLESS campaign is a visionary outlook envisioning a community actively living out these principles over the next ten years at Mavuno.

In the Kids Church, a familiar and catchy song echoes the importance of daily habits: "Read your Bible, pray every day, if you want to grow." This simple yet profound message serves as a foundation for spiritual growth. To nurture spiritual growth in children, parents, volunteers, teachers, and Kids Pastors play a vital role. Encouraging children to read their Bibles regularly and pray becomes a shared responsibility.

Various resources are available to facilitate this journey, including Bible story materials and prayer guides. Parents can read scriptures with their kids, helping them understand the verses and praying together, starting with simple prayers like The Grace. Kids Church teachers can initiate class with a child-led prayer, followed by collective prayer and volunteering to read verses from the Bible. Proverbs 22:6 in The Message translation reinforces our responsibility: "Point your kids in the right direction—when they’re old they won’t be lost." Thus, guiding children toward daily Bible reading and prayer becomes crucial for their spiritual growth. The guidance is clear:

  • Go to God in prayer daily
  • Read God's Word daily
  • Obey God, moment by moment
  • Witness for Christ through both actions and words

Kids Life Groups provide an excellent space for children to share, learn, and grow together spiritually. Within the framework of shared values and accountability with trusted adults and peers, Kids Life Groups become a nurturing environment.

If you're inspired to kickstart a Kids Discipleship Group, we welcome you to reach out and join us on this impactful journey of fostering spiritual growth in the next generation.

In the vibrant city of Mombasa in 2023, three close friends, Latifah, Priscila, and Tyler, discovered a shared passion for making a positive impact on the lives of the kids in their community. As December 2023 rolled in, these friends, now young leaders, were actively leading Discipleship Groups, each tailored to address specific challenges faced by the kids in Mombasa.

Latifah's group, consisting of eight lively youngsters, gathered in a community center filled with the warm coastal breeze. Among them, Timmy, a thoughtful boy with dreams as vast as the Indian Ocean, voiced his concerns about the overwhelming amount of information online. "There's so much happening, Latifah. How do we know what's right and what's wrong?" he questioned. Latifah, drawing from her own experiences, guided Timmy and his friends in discerning the truth from the noise. She encouraged critical thinking, curiosity, and seeking guidance from trusted adults.

Priscila, leading a vibrant group of thirteen kids, faced the pressing challenge of climate change and flooding that affected their area. Jaden, a compassionate soul, shared, "Sometimes the floods are so scary, Priscila. How can we help and make a difference?" Priscila, with a heart full of empathy, introduced them to initiatives focused on environmental awareness and community resilience. Together, they initiated projects like tree planting and educating their community on sustainable practices to mitigate the impact of flooding.

Tyler, nurturing a smaller group of five kids, encountered discussions about the unsettling global issues of terrorism, religious wars, corruption, racism, and poverty. Young minds like Mia's were troubled by the uncertainty in the world. Tyler, with grace and wisdom, integrated discussions on faith, resilience, and compassion into their gatherings. They explored how God's love could be a guiding force, instilling hope and a sense of purpose amidst the challenges of their coastal community.

The three friends recognized that to reach out to the next generation, creativity and divine wisdom were essential. Inspired by Matthew 7:7, they embraced the idea of asking God for guidance. They understood the significance of seeking wisdom, as emphasized in James 1:5.

In a world marred by complex challenges, Latifah, Priscila, and Tyler provided the kids with essential tools:

  1. Critical Thinking: Teaching kids to discern information, question, and think critically helps them navigate the vast sea of information online.
  2. Empathy and Collective Action: Fostering a sense of empathy and encouraging collective action empowers kids to make a positive impact on issues like climate change and flooding.
  3. Faith and Resilience: Integrating discussions on faith, resilience, and compassion provides a foundation for navigating through global challenges.

As the Discipleship Groups flourished in the coastal city of Mombasa, Latifah, Priscila, and Tyler realized that by sowing seeds of wisdom and faith in the hearts of these young minds, they were not just preparing them to face the world but inspiring them to be beacons of light, hope, and positive change along the shores of their beautiful community.
