Faith

What is Faith? To have faith is to be sure of the things we hope for,to be certain of the things we cannot see. Hebrews 11:1 (GNB)My focus will be on 'Noah' we are told that Noah the son of Lamech,Genesis 5:28,29. Noah was a man of God, he was a just man and perfect in his generations and he walked with his Almighty. Though people sinned against God Noah remained upright. God was angry with the people on earth.'And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. (Genesis 6:5) Why people continue indulging in evil even though they know it was wrong: 1. Ignorance 2. Lust 3. Greed 4. Pride and Ego 5. Rebeliousness e.t.c then how did Noah stood out different from the rest? Noah chose to obey God's command and that's why he is even included in the book of Hebrews Hall of Fame. Hebrews 11:7 which says, By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built...

Humility of Christ

Humility Exemplified – Philippians 2:5-8 Posted on September 19, 2004 Kevin A. Pierpont Higgins Lake Baptist Church 9/19/04 Last week we studied the importance of humility in the church and how it’s through humility that we achieve unity. I think most believers need encouragement in this area of the Christian life. You might think you already have this area pretty well mastered but I’d venture to guess we all could improve our measure of humility. Orla Shup shared this in a Christian magazine… “When I babysit for my minister's 3-year-old, one of our favorite games is Go Fish. One evening, after winning several rounds, she kept bragging about how good she was. Jokingly, I said to her, "I'm going to have to teach you a little humility." Immediately she looked up and asked, "How do you play that?" 1 We don’t learn about humility by playing a game. (Well, maybe some of us do.) But as we continue this week in our study of the book of Philippians we’ll see ho...

Thoughts: Weapons of Mass Destruction

By: Bodé Adeboyejo Often times when Christians think or talk about spiritual warfare, they usually think about demons, evil spirits, principalities and powers, rulers of darkness, etc. That’s true. The Bible does say that we do not “war against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against rulers of darkness, and spiritual host of wickedness in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:12 However, there is another type of spiritual warfare. Maybe even more lethal than what most Christians are aware of, or hardly pay attention to, which as a result is wiping out many like a powerful Tsunami. The warfare is that of the mind – the battle of the mind! Unlike spiritual warfare, (which I don’t think every Christian faces, for the reason I’ll explain later), the battle of the mind is a battle everyone faces, Christians and non-Christians alike; even more so Christians. I believe that the most lethal spiritual warfare a person can face, especially a Christian, is not...

Classroom Helps

FEBRUARY 15, 2011 10 Benefits of Getting Students to Participate in Classroom Discussions By: Maryellen Weimer, PhD in Teaching and Learning Participation is one of those workhorse instructional strategies—easy to use, straightforward, expected, and often quite successful at accomplishing a number of learning goals. It’s good to remind ourselves of its many different uses, especially on those days when getting students to participate feels like pulling hens’ teeth. Participation adds interest—It’s hard to maintain students’ focus and attention when all they hear is the professor talking. It helps to hear another voice as well as an answer or another point of view. Participation engages students—A good question can pique their interest, make them wonder why, get them to think, and motivate them to make connections with the content. This benefit is magnified when teachers play a bit with the question, when they repeat it, write it on the board, and don’t call on the first hand...

Embracing the Divine Love Language: Overcoming Fear with Perfect Love

Image
In the realm of divine wisdom, the scripture from 1 John 4:18 resonates profoundly: "There is no fear in Love, perfect love drives out all fear. So then, love has not been made perfect in anyone who is afraid, because fear has to do with punishment." As I stand on the precipice of adulthood, witnessing many of my childhood friends transition into parenthood, one particular friend, Odera, captures my admiration with the arrival of twins—both a boy and a girl. Amidst the joyous celebration, thoughts of my own journey towards marriage fill my fragile mind with trepidation. Stories of couples divorcing within a month of marriage and statistical revelations about the challenges faced by married couples compound my fears. According to research by The Barna Group, the average duration of a marriage leading to divorce is eight years, with individuals waiting an average of three years before contemplating remarriage. Startlingly, the study reveals that among those who have exchang...
